Resetting Your Tire Pressure Light

Once your tires have the correct amount of air pressure, the TPMS light should go off on its own. It can be stressful to endure your commute from Omaha to Beatrice with a TPMS light on when it should be off. If that’s the case, try a few of these different methods on how to reset a tire pressure light:

• Drive at 50 mph or above for 10 minutes. This will enable your sensor to reset the next time you start the vehicle.
• Keep the vehicle turned off, but set the key to the “On” position. Hold the TPMS button until it blinks three times, then let go. Start the car and give the sensor 20 minutes to reset. If you can’t find the tire pressure monitor reset button, check under the steering wheel or refer to your owner’s manual.
• Inflate each tire 3 PSI above the recommendation. Then deflate them completely. Once they’re all flat, inflate to the proper PSI. Be sure to do this process with the spare tire, as it may have its own sensor.
• When the vehicle is off, disconnect the positive battery cable with a wrench. Turn the car on and honk the horn to drain the remaining charge. Reconnect the battery.

Since tire pressure sensors generally rely on a battery, a flashing tire pressure light is often a sign that the sensor battery needs to be replaced.
